Google ID'd as Operator of Tulsa Area Data Center

Google will operate a new data center campus under construction in unincorporated Tulsa County, Oklahoma, just west of Owasso, the Tulsa Regional Chamber announced Aug. 19.

An operator of the data center was not publicly identified prior to the Chamber announcement this week.

What is Project Clydesdale 

Developer Beale Infrastructure broke ground on the facility, then known as Project Clydesdale, on Oct. 30, 2025. 

Beale’s original project announcement described a planned $1 billion investment, up to 100 permanent technical jobs and thousands of local construction jobs during the five-year build-out of the initial phase.

The campus will join Google’s global network of data centers supporting services including Google Search, online banking, hospitals and emergency systems, according to the Tulsa Regional Chamber.

The announcement comes as data center construction continues to set records nationally.

ConstructConnect’s August 2026 Data Center Report found that U.S. Data Center spending totaled $22.3 billion in June, the second-highest monthly total on record, while year-to-date (YTD) spending through June reached $81.5 billion.

In the report, ConstructConnect economists Michael Guckes and Devin Bell noted YTD spending through June of $81.5 billion "surpassed 2025's full-year total of $72.5 billion and is more than three times the 2024 full-year total."

Google Expands Its Oklahoma Footprint

Google has invested more than $15 billion in Oklahoma since establishing its first data center presence in the state, according to the Tulsa Regional Chamber and Google’s Oklahoma economic impact report. The company has operated in Oklahoma for nearly two decades, with its Mayes County campus near Pryor serving as an early anchor for its data center network.

In 2025, Google said its investments and technologies helped provide $2.6 billion in economic activity for tens of thousands of Oklahoma businesses, publishers, nonprofits, creators, and developers.  

Google’s Tulsa County project follows the company’s broader expansion across the Southeast Census region. In April, ConstructConnect News reported on Google’s planned second Georgia data center, a 270-acre project in LaGrange with company-funded power and related infrastructure upgrades.

What to Know About the Data Center Power

The Tulsa County campus will be powered by Public Service Company of Oklahoma. The project includes a new on-site substation funded by Beale, along with upgrades intended to improve PSO’s transmission and distribution reliability across the region, according to the chamber announcement.

The campus will occupy 506 acres and is expected to add capacity for both digital infrastructure and regional power demand. Google said its Oklahoma data center investments build on more than 15 agreements signed since 2011 to support the development of more than 2.5 gigawatts of new power generation and storage projects.

To help address the labor needs created by new energy infrastructure, Google is supporting a program with the electrical training ALLIANCE. The initiative is expected to train existing electrical workers and add more than 160 apprentices in Oklahoma by 2030.

The emphasis on utility construction reflects a broader trend in data center development. ConstructConnect’s Data Center Report noted power access is increasingly shaping where data centers can be built, while activity is moving toward areas with available power and water resources and proximity to natural gas pipeline infrastructure.

Water, Roads, and Community Benefits

Project Clydesdale also includes water infrastructure improvements. Google and Beale are funding and installing 1.5 miles of new water lines and upgrades for Washington County Rural Water District No. 3, according to the Tulsa Regional Chamber.

The project is also expected to support roadway improvements and other public infrastructure upgrades. Rich Brierre, executive director of the Indian Nations Council of Governments, said the development will improve energy reliability, water systems and roads in the area.

Google and Beale plan to expand partnerships involving education, workforce development, small businesses and digital access.

The project’s infrastructure commitments come as communities nationwide are weighing the local costs and benefits of data center expansion. Recent ConstructConnect News coverage examined data center opposition tied to power demand, water use, pollution, noise, tax incentives and long-term infrastructure impacts.

Some states have placed restrictions or moratoriums on data center construction.  In early August,Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed regulators to audit all data center projects moving through the grid connection process. The move effectively halted new data center projects advancing until that review is complete.

What is the Impact on Construction

The initial Tulsa-area data center build-out is expected to impact demand for a broad range of construction trades, including electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians and ironworkers, according to Beale’s 2025 announcement.

The project also creates potential work in civil construction, utility upgrades, substations, transmission and distribution systems, water lines, roads and data center fit-out.

Google also announced a separate $9 billion Oklahoma investment in 2025 covering cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure. That announcement included a new data center campus in Stillwater, an expansion of its existing Pryor facility and expanded education and workforce development programs.
