New York Offering $100M in Grants for Nature-Based Construction Projects

KEY POINTS

  • Resilient Watersheds Grant Program provides $60 million for flood mitigation.

  • $40 million earmarked for “community resilience” grants.

  • Applications close June 26, 2026.

New York is opening $100 million in grant funding for nature-based and green infrastructure construction projects aimed at reducing flood risk statewide and strengthening resilience to extreme weather.

The funding comes from New York’s $4.2 billion Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Environmental Bond Act of 2022 and will be divided between two main programs: the Resilient Watersheds Grant Program and the Community Resilience and Flood Risk Reduction Grants Program.

What are the details of the Resilient Watersheds Grant Program?

The Resilient Watersheds Grant Program, also known as RWG, is intended to help flood-prone communities reduce flood and ice jam risks and strengthen infrastructure. The program offers $60 million for projects such as:

What are the details of the Community Resilience and Flood Risk Reduction Grants Program?

The Community Resilience and Flood Risk Reduction Grants Program is designed to help vulnerable communities protect homes, businesses, and water quality. Its funding is divided into two categories: Coastal Rehabilitation and Resilience, and Inland Flooding and Local Waterfront Revitalization Program Implementation.

Coastal Rehabilitation and Resilience

According to the state, grants issued under the Coastal Rehabilitation and Resilience category will support projects that “strengthen climate resiliency” along New York’s coastlines. A total of $20 million has been earmarked for this category.

Inland Flooding and Local Waterfront Revitalization Program Implementation

Another $20 million has been set aside for the Inland Flooding and Local Waterfront Revitalization Program Implementation category. This funding is reserved exclusively for communities that have completed the Department of State’s Local Waterfront Revitalization Program.

When and how can people apply for these grants?

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Eastern on June 26, 2026, and can be submitted through New York State’s Consolidated Funding Application website: https://apps.cio.ny.gov/apps/cfa/.

More information about both grant programs will be provided during a live webinar at 10:30 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday, April 7, hosted by New York and several state agencies. People interested in applying can register for the webinar through New York’s Department of State website.
