Washington Commanders and HKS Reveal First Look at New D.C. Stadium

KEY POINTS

  • The new Washington Commanders stadium will seat over 70,000 and be located on the former RFK Stadium site, aligned with Washington, D.C.’s iconic L’Enfant Plan.

  • Plans include dedicating at least 30 percent of the 180-acre site to green spaces, public areas, and neighborhood amenities.

  • The venue is designed to be a vibrant year-round destination that supports community engagement, housing, sports, and entertainment.

The Washington Commanders, in partnership with global design firm HKS, have unveiled the first conceptual renderings for the team’s new stadium. The images showcase a state-of-the-art, roofed venue designed to serve as a landmark destination in Washington, D.C.

The project is set to transform the 180-acre former RFK Stadium site into a vibrant, year-round urban destination. With a seating capacity of over 70,000, the new stadium is designed in alignment with the original L’Enfant Plan for Washington, D.C., respecting the city’s historical layout.

Beyond serving as a premier venue for sports and entertainment, the development will be a community hub. The plans include dedicating at least 30 percent of the site to green spaces, adding new public amenities, and creating up to 6,000 new homes, including a significant number of affordable housing units.

This approach ensures the project delivers lasting value to residents and visitors alike, integrating a world-class facility into the community’s fabric.
