Race Rock to Expand Brookshire, Texas Manufacturing Campus to Support Growing  Electrical Infrastructure Demand

KEY POINTS

  • Race Rock plans to expand its Brookshire, Texas, manufacturing campus with a new facility aimed at serving rising demand for electrical transmission and substation structures.

  • The project is expected to add up to 50,000 tons of annual production capacity and more than 200 jobs, lifting total Brookshire employment above 500.

  • At full production, the company said it will have more than 150,000 tons of annual capacity across four facilities serving utility, highway and energy markets.

Race Rock is expanding its Brookshire, Texas, manufacturing campus with a new facility designed to support growing demand for electrical transmission and substation structures, according to a June 15 statement.

The steel infrastructure manufacturer and distributor said the expansion is intended to help meet rising North American demand tied to grid modernization and broader infrastructure investment. Privately-owned Race Rock serves the utility, highway, and energy markets.

New Manufacturing Plant to be Built within Existing Campus

The new plant will be built within the company’s existing Brookshire Manufacturing Campus, west of Houston. Race Rock said the expansion will bring the campus to about 90 acres and more than 500,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

“This investment reflects the continued growth we are seeing in critical infrastructure demand across the country,” CEO Donald Young said in a statement. “The Brookshire expansion enhances our ability to deliver the capacity, quality, and reliability our customers expect while supporting their long-term infrastructure investments.”

Capacity Growth Tied to Utility Buildout

Race Rock said the Brookshire expansion will add up to 50,000 tons of annual production capacity. Once the new facility reaches full production, the company said it will have more than 150,000 tons of annual capacity across four facilities.

The added capacity is aimed at supporting customers in markets that depend on steel structures for transmission and substation work, areas seeing sustained demand as utilities upgrade aging systems and expand grid infrastructure.

The Brookshire campus location gives Race Rock access to major transportation corridors and key end markets, according to the company.

The announcement comes at a time when a summer wave of big-ticket projects is poised to lift steel demand while it shapes US nonresidential construction activity across auto manufacturing, utility-scale solar, semiconductors, data centers, and bridge infrastructure.

Hiring Expansion Planned

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in fall 2026.

Race Rock said the project will add more than 200 employees once complete, bringing its total Brookshire workforce to more than 500.

The expansion signals continued investment in domestic manufacturing tied to infrastructure-related supply chains, particularly for products used in power delivery and related civil and energy applications.
