Bristol Myers Squibb said it plans to invest around $2.3 billion in a new biopharmaceutical manufacturing campus in Houston, Texas. In an August 10, 2026, statement, the company expects the manufacturing build to create nearly 500 permanent jobs and about 2,000 construction and indirect jobs between 2027 and 2030.
What Is Bristol Myers Squibb Building in Houston?
Its planned 600,000-square-foot campus at Generation Park will support manufacturing of small-molecule medicines, biologics, and antibody-drug conjugates (anticancer drugs). The Princeton, NJ-based biopharmaceutical company discovers, develops and delivers medicines for serious diseases.
BMS said the site will be designed to handle drug-product and finished-goods manufacturing from late development through commercial launch.
How Does the Project Fit BMS' U.S. Investment Strategy?
The Houston project is part of Bristol Myers Squibb's stated $40 billion commitment to invest in the United States over five years across research and development, technology and domestic manufacturing. The company has not disclosed a construction start date, design team, general contractor or other project delivery partners in its announcement.

How Will the Houston Campus Adapt to Future Manufacturing Needs?
BMS said the campus will use a modular design that allows the company to add or reconfigure manufacturing capacity as its drug pipeline and commercial needs change.
The site also will have multi-modal capabilities, allowing different types of medicines to be produced across multiple disease areas. From a single facility, multi‑modal manufacturing aims to produce multiple, diverse products using different manufacturing processes. It is known to enable greater flexibility, efficiency, and faster time‑to‑market.
The campus will require specialized production spaces, quality-control and assurance areas, utilities, process systems, automation and digital infrastructure. BMS said the architecture is intended to allow new capabilities to come online quickly and to accommodate future advances in automation and digital integration.
The company expects the campus to expand in scale and capability beyond its initial configuration. That creates the potential for additional phases of work after the opening buildout, although BMS has not released a detailed phasing plan.
What Construction Work Could the Project Support?
The company said it projects approximately 2,000 construction jobs and other indirect labor between 2027 and 2030 as the facility is built and brought online. That employment estimate includes the broader activity associated with construction trades, engineering and technical-service providers, logistics and distribution partners, and local suppliers.
The project points to potential long-duration life-science construction opportunities with demand across process construction, mechanical and electrical systems, controls, clean manufacturing environments, commissioning and specialized technical services. The release did not identify procurement packages, bidding dates or the expected delivery method.
BMS expects the Houston campus to employ nearly 500 people once built. The company listed operations technicians, production specialists, maintenance and engineering professionals, quality-control and assurance experts, site leaders and administrative staff among the future roles.
Why Did BMS Choose Houston?
BMS said it evaluated multiple markets in the Central and Eastern United States before selecting Texas. The company cited the region's life-sciences workforce, available incentives, proximity to utilities and transportation infrastructure, and business climate as factors in its decision.
Generation Park is a 4,300-acre development positioned as a hub for life sciences and advanced manufacturing. The location is expected to give BMS room to build a large campus while maintaining access to labor, utilities and transportation networks needed for a manufacturing operation.
BMS Board Chair and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Boerner said Houston and Texas offer the talent, infrastructure and public-private partnership needed to support the company's domestic manufacturing strategy.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pointed to the state's technical colleges and research universities as sources of talent for the project. The governor cited Texas' operating-cost environment and access to U.S. and international markets as additional advantages for biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
Expanding BMS' Texas Presence
The Houston campus would expand BMS' existing Texas presence. The company said it works with a contract manufacturer in the state for commercial and clinical-trial manufacturing and had 250 clinical-trial sites in Texas in 2025.
The investment also follows a year of continued spending on the company's pipeline. In its 2025 earnings release, BMS reported approximately $10 billion in research-and-development expenses for the year.
The Houston announcement links pharmaceutical investment to a broader need for domestic production capacity.
The project's scale, specialized building requirements and planned workforce make it a significant addition to Houston's advanced-manufacturing pipeline, while the modular design leaves room for future construction as BMS' manufacturing needs evolve.
In a related development, BMS announced in July it would "build the most powerful AI factory in life sciences" through an expanded collaboration with NVIDIA, using advanced AI infrastructure to speed drug discovery and help researchers develop innovative medicines.
