A new elementary school in Cheyenne, Wyoming is moving into the bidding phase with a groundbreaking expected as early as June, according to Cap City News.
The 92,500-square-foot Mountain View Elementary School, the first campus Laramie County School District 1 has built specifically for fifth and sixth graders, will serve 650 students drawn from 10 feeder schools across the district's fast-growing South Triad area.
Construction is slated to start this summer near Wallick Road and Division Avenue, with the school targeting a Fall 2028 opening. JLG Architects, FDL Consulting, and Elske Architecture are leading the design. A general contractor had not been indicated at the time of publication.
The building's layout reflects a deliberate choice by the district, as roughly 27% of the students who will attend Mountain View have special needs, including autism and mobility impairments.
Rather than placing special education and life skills classrooms in interior corridors, as seen in older school construction, designers positioned the classrooms along exterior walls to maximize natural light.
The building also includes a dedicated sensory room and expanded adaptive physical education space.
Safety systems are built into the structure itself. The school features a three-tiered security setup with a locked vestibule, separate classroom pod access points, and distinct bus and parent drop-off zones to keep vehicle traffic separated.
Coordinating the site required working across multiple agencies. The district engaged city, county, and state infrastructure contacts to manage the project's location in a still-developing part of Cheyenne. Total project cost and funding sources had not been indicated at the time of publication.
With bids due shortly and a summer groundbreaking on the calendar, Mountain View represents one of the district's most significant construction starts.
