The San Antonio Missions' new downtown ballpark has been pushed back one year and is now slated to open in 2029.
The new stadium is being designed for roughly 7,500 spectators on a site along the redeveloped San Pedro Creek, linking the venue to one of downtown San Antonio's more visible development efforts.
The revised schedule is meant to address construction concerns and allow more time for major development tied to the stadium, underscoring how venue delays can ripple across adjoining work.
The San Antonio Missions' planned downtown ballpark will now open for the 2029 baseball season, extending the timeline for a sports venue that is also tied to a broader redevelopment push along San Pedro Creek.
The ballpark is planned as a new home for the Missions, the Minor League Baseball, Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

According to KSAT and reporting from the San Antonio Business Journal, the revised schedule is intended to address construction concerns and allow more time for major development tied to the stadium. Additional details of the concerns were not specified.
KSAT reported the project would extend San Antonio's more than century-long run in professional baseball while creating a new center-city home for the Missions.
The stadium is designed to accommodate about 7,500 spectators. In 2024, the latest available figures, the expected cost of the venue was $160 million.
The venue is slated for a site along the redeveloped San Pedro Creek, placing it at the center of a downtown project with significance beyond baseball.
The one-year delay highlights that stadium work rarely moves on a stand-alone schedule. Venue construction is often closely linked to adjacent site development, infrastructure coordination, and public-facing redevelopment goals.
In this case, the stadium is part of a broader effort to provide a development boost to downtown San Antonio while preserving the city's long-running professional baseball presence.
A revised schedule intended to address construction concerns is not unusual given the current challenges facing the industry.
ConstructConnect Associate Economist Devin Bell noted that "Sports Arenas and Convention Centers have had strong growth in spending in recent years, hitting a record of over $16 billion in starts in 2025 which was up 131.7% from 2022."
Bell added, "Contractors working on that pipeline are contending with elevated material costs, labor scarcity, and financing costs that have yet to recede."
Large sports facilities can serve as anchors for surrounding investment, which means schedule changes can affect more than opening day.

When a ballpark timeline shifts, it can also reset expectations for related development activity, project sequencing, and nearby commercial momentum.
The Missions project now joins a wider pattern of high-profile venue developments contending with longer delivery timelines as construction complexity, redevelopment ambitions, and stakeholder pressure converge on the same site.
