KEY POINTS

  • Orlando Health said June 2 it plans to build a new seven-story regional hospital and a three-story, 60,000-square-foot medical office building on a 40-acre health and wellness campus in Viera, Fla.

  • The project is slated for Borrows West in Brevard County, with groundbreaking expected this month, an emergency department opening targeted for fall 2027, and ultimate buildout reaching 240 beds.

  • The nonprofit health system said the development is expected to add more than 1,000 jobs to a region where it already employs more than 2,100 team members and physicians across Brevard and Indian River counties.

Orlando Health plans to expand its footprint on Florida’s Space Coast with a new regional hospital and medical office building in Viera, a project the health system said will anchor a 40-acre health and wellness campus in one of Brevard County’s fastest-growing mixed-use areas.

According to a June 2 announcement from Orlando Health, the project, called Orlando Health Viera Hospital, will rise in Borrows West between Lake Andrew Drive and Interstate 95, just south of Viera Boulevard.

The development will include a new seven-story hospital and a three-story, 60,000-square-foot medical office building.

“This is an exciting day for this region and for Orlando Health as we move forward with plans for this state-of-the-art facility,” Ohme Entin, president of Orlando Health East Region and senior vice president of Orlando Health, said in the announcement.

The nonprofit health system said it is working with The Viera Company and expects to break ground this month, in June 2026.

What Is Planned

Orlando Health said the hospital will be built in phases. The first major milestone is the emergency department, which is scheduled to open in fall 2027. At full buildout, the campus is planned for 240 hospital beds.

The hospital program includes emergency services, imaging, laboratory services, pharmacy, surgical suites, catheterization labs and related support space for acute care delivery, according to the announcement.

The medical office building is expected to house specialty practices focused on cardiovascular care, neurosciences, and other services.

Todd J. Pokrywa, president of The Viera Company, said in the announcement that the project aligns with the long-term master plan for Viera and is intended to strengthen both healthcare access and employment growth in the area.

Why It Matters for Construction

The Viera project adds another large-scale healthcare development to Florida’s active institutional pipeline. A phased hospital build paired with a medical office component typically creates work across multiple trades, from site development and structural systems to interiors, medical build-out, and specialty mechanical, electrical, and plumbing packages.

The scale also matters. A seven-story regional hospital with long-term bed capacity, paired with a 60,000-square-foot outpatient building, points to a possible multiyear construction opportunity rather than a single-building assignment.

Contractors tracking healthcare, civil, utilities and interior specialty scopes in Central Florida will likely view the project as a meaningful addition to the regional bid landscape.

Developers See Continued Regional Growth

Orlando Health said the new Viera campus is expected to bring more than 1,000 additional jobs to the region. That would add to the more than 2,100 team members and physicians the system already employs across Brevard and Indian River counties at Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital, Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital, and multiple physician practices.

That employment projection gives the project significance beyond healthcare delivery. In growth corridors such as Viera, major institutional anchors can accelerate surrounding commercial activity, including office, retail, hospitality and residential development.

The Viera Company framed the investment in those terms, calling it a catalyst for continued growth across Borrows West, Viera and the broader Central Space Coast region.

Orlando Health describes itself as a private, not-for-profit integrated academic healthcare system serving Florida, Alabama and Puerto Rico. Its public website shows the organization’s broad network of physician, specialty and patient-care services.

In background information accompanying the announcement, the system said it has $15 billion in assets under management and delivered nearly $2 billion in community impact in fiscal 2024.
