GE Aerospace plans to invest more than $225 million to modernize its Research Center in Niskayuna, Schenectady County, New York, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Sept. 21.
What the GE Aerospace Project Includes
The project will upgrade facilities, equipment and infrastructure at the site, which the state says faces capacity constraints and aging infrastructure. GE Aerospace also committed to creating at least 75 new research, engineering and skilled-trade jobs as it expands work on jet-engine technology for commercial and defense customers.
In a statement, GE Aerospace said, the investment will be used to, "strengthen GE Aerospace's research capacity, with approximately two-thirds going toward infrastructure improvements and the remainder dedicated to advanced research equipment and technology."

Impact on Research and Workforce Development
GE Aerospace’s Niskayuna Research Center serves as a hub for scientific research and advanced-technology development and employs more than 800 people.
The planned spending includes machinery, equipment, furniture and fixtures, which state officials said will support the site’s long-term role in global aerospace innovation and help GE Aerospace remain competitive internationally.
The statement does not specify potential construction-related labor opportunities, contractors, subcontractors, hiring timelines, or individual construction occupations.
“The future of flight is developed through rigorous scientific and technical pursuit spanning decades,” said Joe Vinciquerra, general manager and senior executive director of GE Aerospace Research. “We are ready to turn this investment into breakthroughs that will define the next era of aviation.”
The announcement also highlights workforce-development activity connected to the site. The GE Aerospace Foundation is expanding its Next Engineers program in the Capital Region to reach roughly 4,000 students across local school districts, with the goal of advancing STEM readiness and building a future talent pipeline.
